Your private driver/guide will pick you up at your hotel in Kuala Lumpur and take you by private vehicle to Putrajaya, a 45-minute drive from the city. Putrajaya, named in honor of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, is also referred to as the Intelligent Garden City.
Putrajaya houses Malaysia’s government administrative center amid lush greenery and botanical gardens dotting the vast landscape. There are 5 confluences that meet here to form the main waterway, Putrajaya Lake, at the heart of the city in a man-made Wetland Park.
When you arrive, watch boats float past on Putrajaya Lake toward Putra Bridge, a 3-tiered concrete bridge with observation decks on 4 minaret-type piers.
See Putrajaya’s impressive monuments such as the pink-domed Putra Mosque, constructed of rose granite, and with a basement wall that resembles the King Hassan Mosque in Casablanca. The elegant prayer hall, supported by 12 columns, reaches a height of 250 feet and its minaret is one of the tallest in the region. Admire the sahn, or courtyard, featuring several water features and colonnades.
You’ll also see Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister’s office, which is often referred to as the White House of Malaysia. Situated on the main hill, the Prime Minister’s Department Complex houses several of Malaysia’s governmental buildings and agencies. Your driver/guide will point out how the iconic structures were built with Malay, Islamic, and European architectural influences in mind.
